지난 4월 2일부터 30일까지 한달간 미국 워싱턴 한국문화원에서는 ‘선택한 고향: 여성의 정체성과 통일성을 찾아서’라는 주제 하에 워싱턴 문화원의 후원으로 재단 주최 아트쇼가 열렸습니다.
한국계 여성 미술대학 및 대학원 학생들을 대상으로한 국제 공모전에서 발굴한 세 명의 유망한 시각 예술가 분들의 작품을 비롯하여, 전 세계에서 활발하게 활동하고 한민족 여성 예술가 분들의 작품을 한자리에서 관람할 수 있는 기회였습니다.
마지막날 열린 폐막 리셉션에는 참여 예술가 분들과 관객분들, 그리고 5월 1일부터 열리는 워싱턴 국제 컨벤션을 참여하기 위해 일찍 도착하신 컨벤션 참가자 분들의 참석 하에 성황리에 막을 내렸습니다.

Chosen Homeland: Searching for Women’s Identity and Unity, a multifaceted group exhibition featuring powerful works of self- expression by 23 Korean-heritage women with distinctly international lives. The artists were selected by the Korea Women’s International Foundation (KOWINNER), which strives to elevate and support Korean female artists and professionals around the world and will host its annual convention inWashington, D.C. May 1-3. This exhibition not only explores what it means to have Korean heritage, but what it means to overcome challenges and find oneself in the process – a universal lesson that transcends race and gender. These talented artists will share their experiences across a wide range of artistic mediums, including visual, installation, traditional material, and sculpture artwork. The KoreanCultural Center hopes that this exhibition enlightens audiences and expands the range of interactions between Korean and American art forms and artists.
